A Beauty 30 Years in the Making

1970 Pontiac GTO

Name: Bob Foss

Year / Make / Model: 1970 Pontiac GTO

How long have you had your classic car? Seven years.

Why did you choose this particular car? This project started 30 years ago, unbeknown to me. At that time, I was restoring a 1968 VW Bug and knew of someone who had my now 1970 GTO hanging on the wall in his garage in parts. Seven years ago, I ran into him in the hardware store and asked him how the restoration of his GTO was going. His comment was, “It’s still hanging on the wall in my garage.” I asked him if he wanted to sell it. Over the next few months, I acquired the car in parts. I chose this car by mere opportunity and my love for antique cars.

Where is your favorite place to show off your classic car? Iola Car Show in Iola, Wisconsin. This year they will be featuring the 1970 muscle cars which I plan to attend. Anything else you want us to know about your classic car? It is definitely a learning experience to put a car back together that has been completely disassembled, particularly when you have not disassembled it yourself, nor are you a mechanic.

Could you tell us about your Legendary experience? I purchased the seat covers, molded bucket seat foam, rear seat padding, rubber car mats, headliner and sail panel. The quality of product from Legendary Auto Interior was excellent and Ron’s installation videos were extremely helpful.

Any recent or upcoming classic car restoration projects you'd like to share? I am now working on a 1970 mustang fastback with a 351, 5 speed and shaker hood.

Anything else you want us to know about your classic car? My GTO was very rough when I started, but it was all original and complete. Spent 3 years on a rotisserie restoration doing the majority myself. It is restored to how it was when it was sold at the dealer.

Could you tell us about your Legendary experience? I purchased all the interior from Legendary, all the Pontiac sites that I follow said Legendary was the best and I would agree after using it. I redid all my seats myself watching you tube videos as a guide. Took a while but they turned out excellent! I even did my own headliner!
